The name “PuTTY” has no official meaning. PuTTY is a free and open-source terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham, a British programmer. PuTTY is a free implementation of SSH and Telnet for Windows and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator.
